Dear Democratic Friends: I have eagerly supported Brad Carson because he is earnest, intellectual and a Democrat. We now know that he is also a fighter. Electoral-vote.com has the most recent Oklahoma poll with Bush holding a 32% point lead over Kerry. Only one other state is listed with a larger lead – Wyoming with 33% points. Bush does better in Oklahoma than he does in Kansas or Texas...or any other red state save one. I don't tell you this to depress you, I tell you this so you know how amazing it is that Brad is even competitive...but he is. He has an excellent chance of winning next Tuesday but only if all of us Democrats, whether we be conservative, moderate, progressive or liberal, and a few Republicans who think Coburn is a nut support him. Yes Brad Carson is conservative...so is every democrat that wins elections in Oklahoma. You have honored me by nominating me to represent you as your candidate on three separate occasions. Although I won six for six of the primary and runoff elections, I won only one of the three general elections. I was not as conservative as Brad and I was not elected...twice. Just because you are not as conservative as Brad on issues, you cannot stay home, you cannot pass up the Senate race on the ballot, you cannot vote for some mystery independent...you have to vote for Carson and ask your friends and family to do the same. An absent vote is as good as a vote for Coburn who is boldly campaigning as a total ideologue whose sole purpose is to go to Washington to advocate for an extreme right wing agenda. Our only hope of turning our state from a deep burgundy red to a bright blue is to elect highly visible democratic candidates and ask them to advocate for tolerant, progressive, constructive solutions. I am confident that Brad will be such an advocate and I ask that you give him your vote and your enthusiastic support. Imagine what sending a Democrat to the U.S. Senate will do for our Oklahoma Democratic Party and for those of us that want a more progressive state. Your friend, David Walters, Democrat P.S.
