Howdy Folks --

I received the following letter which prompted a revisit of this cartoon of old Enron Jim......

Hi Alfalfa!
My husband Jim did write a letter about Jim Inhofe (like you suggested a few weeks ago) and sent it to both the Tulsa World and our local Stillwater News Press, and we're hoping that at least one of them will publish it. In it he discusses a forgotten but disgusting action of Inhofe's just after the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building. Remember how Inhofe said we wouldn't know how many people died for sure for some time because it would be hard to say until we knew how many federal employees were playing "hookie" that day? Inhofe took some heat for the comment at the time and apologized, but everyone seems to have forgotten during this campaign cycle. Jim and I just reminded Huey Pat Long of this on
Monday (he had forgotten) and Jim just e-mailed his editorials yesterday or today. I hope that they are published. Maybe a certain Alfalfa Bill could look back in the newspapers and get the quotations to remind folks?
Thanks Bill!!!
I've included Jim's editorial below.
Hope to see you some time soon!

PS Alfalfa Bill is Calvin isn't he?

Kathy, this isn't Calvin, I am better looking, but here is your husband's letter.......

Dear Editor of the Tulsa World:

I am a Democrat who is befuddled by the continuing attack on David
Walters, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, for his campaign finance

problems during his time as governor, problems which he has acknowledged and
taken responsibility for. The sentiment that his activities have tainted his

candidacy seem widespread. My puzzlement comes from the memory lapse that
seems to have afflicted the entire state over the Republican candidate, Jim
Inhofe.
Let me remind the voters of a horrifying and ignoble incident. In
April 1995 the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was destroyed by a
bomb. On national television, news anchors asked Jim Inhofe the number of
those who had died, and he answered (paraphrasing), we don't know how many
were playing "hooky." There before all was an exhibiton of Inhofe's
brutality. A terrorist act took 169 Oklahoma lives--women turned into
widows, men turned into widowers, and children into orphans. In this midst
of this tragedy, our Senator could only think about his hatred of federal
employees--he was incapable of the most simple reflexes of human sympathy and

sadness for those who had died. Instead, he insulted the murdered dead.
Now why is it we remember David Walters foibles and fail to mention
Jim Inhofe's brutality? If Inhofe cannot be moved to sympathy for the
victims of terrorism from his own state, who can seriously believe he will
care for the aged and their social security checks, the sick and the cost of
their medicines, and students and the quality of their education? Inhofe's
remarks were an abomination, and it is time he paid the price for them. If
one applies the strictures of the Sermon on the Mount to our senatorial
candidates, then the one who miserably fails and the one who passes is no
great exercise in logic.

Sincerely yours,
Jim H.
